Our hope is to assemble a group of awesome individuals who are passionate, fun and smart! We love creating beautiful spaces for our couples and we hope that our team feels fulfilled by it as well!
We like to send out this pre-interview form so that we can hear a little bit about you beforehand and we can make sure that we are on the same page for what we are looking for and what the position is.
Here at Ohana we are most passionate about: gorgeous flowers all day every day, thoughtful event design, our families, empowering women, travel and experiencing new places.

If you could be doing absolutely anything right now?
We are big on travel here at Ohana and travel as much as possible during the off season. It's where we draw inspiration for our events and get new ideas. We love to hear where other people love to visit.
You are aware that this position is for freelance, part-time, typically weekend work:
So the way this works is we assemble an amazing team each event season to help with the day of set-up of the weddings that our studio has booked. First and foremost we do florals, then styling, followed by decor rentals and on the occasion, day-of-coordination/planning. Once you're added to our freelance team list for Event Design Assistants, we will share with you the dates for the upcoming season that we are looking to fill with help. You would then let us know which dates you are available to work. It's super important that we have a team who is committed or when they say they are available, they are.
We will ask certain freelancers to work certain events based on their proximity, when it makes sense.
That brings us to the next factor of this position. The location. Each weekend it's different! It makes it fun because there is a change of scenery and a new space to decorate each weekend, however it requires our freelance staff to have a car and be willing to drive. Our venues are located all over the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Our home studio is based Warwick, NY. The furthest we have typically travel for an event is an hour & 45 mins. Most events are an hour or less. We reimburse our freelancers with round trip gas compensation that we add on to our payment for the day's work .
I have my own vehicle and do not mind driving.
When we think about this position and who is the right person for it, it is not for someone who needs a full time, typical 9-5 role. Instead it is for the individual who is passionate about events/weddings or who is thirsty to learn and immerse themselves in a creative environment. It's for the individual who was to add a bit of energy to their weekly work week. It's for the person who finds beauty in the details, is inspired by the world around them and likes being around passionate people.
Last thought! As our studio continues to grow, we'll have more and more opportunities for our freelancers to possibly grow into permanent roles. We also will be looking to have floral designers join our team (we are in the process of moving into a new studio space and once we do, we'll have more room for floral designers to join us.)
